Retention and Graduation Policy
Department of Philosophy
The Philosophy Department envisions its philosophy-majors to be imbued with magis especially in terms of their academic performance. Towards this end, the Department intends to ensure that its students fulfill all their academic requirements on time, or at the most, within the sooonest possible time. The Department aims to form its philosophy-majors to make the necessary effort to comply with their academic responsibilities in a very satisfactory manner. The proposal of a retention and graduation policy seeks to achieve this aim.
RETENTION GUIDELINES
- In order to be retained in the Philosophy program, students must satisfy all of the following at the end of the following at the end of the first year:
- S/he must have a quality point index not lower than 2.00.
- S/he must not fail in two or more subjects during his/her first year.
- S/he must have a satisfactory evaluation in the mentorship program.
- In order to be retained in the Philosophy program, students must satisfy all of the following at the end of the second year.
- S/he must have a quality point index not lower than 2.00.
- S/he must not fail in two or more subjects during his/her second year.
- S/he must not fail in any Philosophy Subject twice
- S/he must have finished his/her SRA with certificate of completion.
- S/he must have a good evaluation in the mentorship program.
Any student who fails to satisfy the retention guideline for the first time will be on academic probation upon enrollment. Should s/he fail to satisfy the same guideline the second time, s/he shall not be readmitted to the department. Students on academic probation shall be deloaded to 18 units only.
Those who fail the retention guidelines the second time may make their appeals during Summer, one week prior to enrollment.
GRADUATION GUIDELINES
To be allowed to graduate, on top of passing all the academic requirements, students must pass the Thesis Presentation & Defense and Oral or Written Comprehensive Examination for all Philosophy subjects taken. S/he must also have finished his/her SRA with certificate of completion.
