Goals of the College of Education
In consonance with the Mission Statement of the Ateneo de Naga, the College of Education seeks to provide its students with the Jesuit liberal education. Through its specialized curriculum, the College seeks to develop in the students:
- a deep commitment to the cause of educating Bikol children and youth;
- a sense of Christian values especially in the face of the present challenging socio-economic realities;
- teaching competencies which include mastery of content and effective methodology;
- a social conscience nourished through Sacramental worship which will lead them to active involvement and participation in community development and nation-building; and
- the responsibility of developing future leaders to spur the socio-economic and political development of the Bikol region as well as of the nation.
Directions of the College of Education for the 21st Century
As articulated in the school's Direction for Year 2000, the University will continue to improve its performance in its present offerings and at the same time engage in new courses that will contribute to the development of Bikol.
Thus the school will give special attention to Teacher Education in recognition of its inestimable impact on the development of human resource of the region.
Specifically, the College will strive to maintain its quality of instruction through a rigorous screening of its faculty – only the most competent, dynamic, creative, committed and imbued with gospel-values applicants will be invited and admitted into College.
Collaboration with the Graduate School and the Ateneo Social Research Center will also be made for the continuing professional development of the faculty and to hone/or further enhance research skills. In addition, the College will continuously identify and/or provide opportunities here and abroad, for the upgrading of the knowledge, skills and qualifications of its faculty.
Access and equity will be provided to poor but deserving students through increase in the number of scholarship grants. These grants and a systematic recruitment program, will hopefully attract the best and brightest students into the teaching career.
The College will strive to maintain its high passing rate in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). Moreover, it will aim to produce more topnotchers in the LET.
In response to globalization, the students will be exposed more and more to global issues and culture even as the College continues to imbue them with nationalistic sentiments and Jesuit, Catholic and Filipino values. This exposure will be coupled with training on how to facilitate classes in both elementary and secondary levels, in the midst of the emerging culture and demands of the next millennium.
In the area of extension service, the College intends to adopt a needy school from the state or private system and help it upgrade itself through provision of scholarships to its faculty as well as students. Furthermore, under this model, the College hopes to become a true Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider for teachers in the Region with a vigorous Ateneo Teacher Training Center (ATTC) as an innovative arm of the college.
Finally, the College looks forward to opening its own Grade School Department to serve as a laboratory school for future teachers in the Region. |
