Together with AdNU – Media Studies Chair Digna P. Alba, Ph, D and Ms. Emerlie Rayala, twenty (20) AdNU students joined the delegation of Media Studies Students and Educators from 60 Schools all over the country last 4-5 February at the Bulwagang Balagtas, NALLRC Bldg., Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila for the Pinoy Media Congress (PMC) Year 5 with the theme Politics, Media and Citizenship.
The event was made possible by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators Foundation (PACE) and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
The two day conference consisted of lectures, presentations and sessions on Political Advertising, Politics and the New Social Media, Public Opinion, The Code of Ethics in News Gathering, Citizen Journalism, Political Advocacy, Presidential Profile, Voters Education on Automated Elections Corporate Social Responsibility, Ratings 101, TV entertainment and a yearly dialogue with ABS-CBN Top Management.
Among the notable figures that graced the event were top executives of ABS-CBN led by Chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III, President and COO Ma. Rosario “Charo” Santos – Concio, News and Current Affairs and ANC Head Maria Ressa, Corporate Communications Division Head and Vice President Bong Osorio, Channel 2 Head Cory Vidanes, Research and Business Analysis Head Vivian Tin, abs-cbnnews.com head Charie Villa, Senior Broadcaster Ted Failon and News Reporter Atom Araullo and PACE officers led by its president and St. Scholastica’s College Mass Communication Chair Flordeliz Abanto, PACE Founder Fr. Alberto Ampil, SJ and Immediate Past President Maria Mercedes “Chichi” Robles.
Experts in research, film, advertising and journalism from universities and media organizations also gave high-powered lectures and discussions. COMELEC – Education and Information Division Director James Jimenez’ Presentation, the Presidential Forum with Dick Gordon, Nicanor Perlas and Bro. Eddie Villanueva and the yearly dialogue with ABS-CBN Top Management were among the event’s crowd favorites.
Students and future Media Practitioners in turn grabbed the rare opportunity to ask questions up close and personal from the Presidentiables, the Media icons of ABS-CBN and other keynote speakers and resource personalities quite enthusiastically that the queue of half excited and half nervous students behind the microphones in the podium was always longer than the allotted time for every open forum.
This year’s delegation is the biggest in PMC’s 5 year history.
The third day, 6 February of the PMC was devoted for special activities for students like ABS-CBN studio tour, La Mesa Ecopark tour and Star Cinema Film Screening at ABS-CBN’s Dolphy Theatre.
The Philippine Association of Communication Educators Foundation, Inc. (PACE) is a non-stock, non-profit organization of professionals engaged in communication education and media practice in the Philippines. It was founded in 1975 and since then has been in the forefront of activities focused on the review of policies and standards for communication education and ethical practice in the teaching and media professions.
