With high spirits and engaging enthusiasm, the Ateneo De Naga University community celebrated its University Day last 20 February 2010.
First in the line of activities was the Fun Run organized by the University Athletics Office led by its Director Jec Claro. At least 291 participants run from ADNU to the main thoroughfares of Naga and then back to ADNU campus. A simple breakfast of bread and macaroni soup was served afterwards at the University Covered Courts.
At 8:00 am, a Thanksgiving Mass was held at the Christ the King University Church. University President Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J. was assisted by guest principal presider Fr. Jojo Magadia, S.J., Jesuit Provincial. College and High school students, teachers, personnel and administrators joined hands in prayer and gratitude for ADNU’s 10th year as a university.
In the afternoon, widely acclaimed historian Professor Danilo Gerona, Ph.D. presented a lecture entitled Ina and the Bikol River Winding Down Through History at The Madrigal Ampitheater at 1:30 PM. The program started with an invocation led by Gladys Esteve followed by the welcome Address of Arts and Sciences Dean Lydia Goingo, Ph. D. Gerona’s lecture was preceeded by an introduction of him by Philosophy Department faculty member Adrian Remodo. Gerona shared amazing and occasionally amusing details about the culture and origins of pre-Hispanic and Hispanic Bicol. Professor Tito Valiente and INECAR Director Emelina Regis, Ph. D. served as panel of reactors. Ms. Jonacel Garol emceed the event.
Next was a cultural night entitled Pagtanaw: Pitong Polong Taon nin Paghehereras-herasan. This musical event was held at the Arrupe Convention Hall and started at 7:00 PM. Featured were the University Band and its Director Noriel Artiaga, University Choir and Guest Performers including German Violinists Annette Mettenleiter and Pianist Peter Porticos. Mr. Joseph Reburiano served as the conductor, arranger and musical director of the event. The university day was capped with enchanting music and the alluring jive of German, Filipino and Bicolano rhythm and lyrics.
