Voter’s Education for Economics Classes

The Ateneo Remontados Debate Society facilitated and gave inputs on the national situation, May 2010 automated elections, reflection and commitment-sharing last February 17, 2010 at the Brother Richard Fernando Hall.

Ms. Monica Palomares, Remontados Vice-President for Training and Development Communications student, presented a brief national situation update and discussed the values and principles of voting as a human right and elections as a pillar of democracy. Ms. Arcci Relloso, Remontados member and Business Management Honors Program student, oriented the audience on the automated process of the coming elections and presented a virtual demonstration of the process from start to finish. Ms. Meryll Garcia, Remontados member and student of Accountancy, facilitated the reflection session and the sharing of commitment where the participants wrote on a piece of paper their promise to themselves and the Philippine society what they plan to do toward a clean, free and honest elections.

The Ateneo debaters attended the two-day Trainer’s Training on Continuing Political Education sponsored by the Ateneo de Manila School of Government, Institute of Politics and University Social Involvement Council last December 2009 at the Villa Caceres Hotel..   

The audience showed deep interest on the topic as manifested by lots of questions and clarifications especially about the equipment and process of the automated elections. 

The activity was co-sponsored with the University Social Involvement Council. The participants came from all six (6) economics classes of Dr. Bernadette Gumba, faculty member of the Department of Social Sciences.
