ADNU Forms USIC-CSPEAI

Responding to the need for a more coordinated and integrated effort at socio-political education, advocacy, and involvement of the University, ADNU has created the Social Involvement Council Committee on Socio-Political Education and Involvement (USIC-CSPEAI).

Composed by Chairperson of the University Social Involvement Council (USIC), President of the Ateneo Personnel Club (APC), President of the Supreme Student Government (SSG), Chairperson of the Formation Council (FC), Director of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), Director of the Institute of the Politics (IP),President of the Ateneo College Faculty Club (ACFC), and President of the High School Department’s Ateneo de Naga  Student Government (ANSGO), the committee aims to (1) provide a framework for continuing socio-political involvement of the various sectors of the University, (2) draw a roadmap for tactical and strategic involvement in electoral politics, and (3) provide a coordinating structure for University socio-political education, advocacy and involvement.

Due to the importance and urgency of the approaching 2010 elections, the USIC-CSPEAI have decided to focus on  voters education and continuing political education to prepare the ADNU community for the upcoming political exercise.

Activities Regarding the May 2010 Elections:

As the 2010 election draws nearer, the USIC-CSEAPI will organize several activities to facilitate the preparedness of citizens for the May 2010 National and Local Elections.

A Trainers Training for Political Educators will be provided for selected faculty and personnel on 5-6 December. A similar trainers training for student leaders is tentatively set on 12-13 December. The said training will be undertaken in cooperation with the Ateneo de Manila School of Government – PugadLawin Project and Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan.

This 14 December, there will be a forum with the COMELEC on the Computerization of the May 2010 National and Local Elections.

In line with the major political event next year, from December to March, the Pintakasi 2009 theme will be on meaningful electoral participation.

For next year, the USIC-CSEAPI will conduct a series of forums regarding the Presidential and local Candidates on 22 January and 19 February 2010 respectively. On the Election Day itself until the proclamation of winners, the USIC-CSPEAI, and the Ateneo Community, will be among those who will safeguard the votes.

 A Post-Election and Planning for continuing engagement will also follow in June 2010.
